WATER INITIATIVES

Our Approach to Water Security

We work to improve access to safe and reliable drinking water through community awareness, rainwater harvesting initiatives, and support for locally appropriate water purification solutions. Our interventions focus on strengthening community ownership, promoting water conservation, and ensuring long-term sustainability of water sources.

We actively engage youth and community volunteers through campaigns, workshops, and action-driven initiatives that encourage responsible water use and civic participation. By combining grassroots awareness with practical solutions, we directly benefit households in water-stressed areas—reducing waterborne health risks, easing the burden on women and children, and supporting resilient communities in the face of climate stress.

Global Water Crisis: Key Facts

2 Billion+

According to WHO reports (2021), over 2 billion people live in water-stressed countries—a number expected to rise due to climate change and population growth.

1.7 Billion

In 2022, at least 1.7 billion people used drinking water contaminated with faeces. Microbial contamination poses the greatest risk to water safety.

In 2022, 73% of the global population (6 billion people) used a safely managed drinking-water service – located on premises, available when needed, and free from contamination. We at IWCI promote and believe that everyone should have access to safely managed drinking water supply.
