Climate is dynamic—it is constantly changing. Climate change exposes vulnerable communities to dangers like disasters, diseases, loss of livelihoods, crop failures, poverty and displacement, threatening loss of biodiversity and food security. Our actions can either help regulate it or further disrupt it. At the Institute for Water & Climate Initiatives (IWCI), our climate action focuses on building awareness and driving community-led solutions that strengthen environmental resilience.
We work at the grassroots level through tree plantation drives, waste and plastic reduction campaigns, and by promoting sustainable everyday practices. We believe that endless consumption and poor waste management are not solutions. Instead, we need an economy that uses fewer resources, generates less pollution, and significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
To advance this transition, IWCI actively works on circular economy approaches, air pollution mitigation, and climate change action, empowering communities—especially youth—to be part of the solution for a sustainable future.
According to the Global Climate Risk Index 2021, India is the 7th most affected nation due to climate change.
As per Down to Earth's "State of India’s Environment 2025", average life expectancy shortened by 3 years and 6 months due to air pollution in 2022.
A 2023 study in Mumbai highlighted that many waste pickers suffer from anxiety and depression due to extreme, unhygienic working conditions and social stigma.
